(Image source: FHNW School of Life Sciences)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dr. Thomas Vetter studied chemical engineering at the ETH Zurich and deepened his knowledge in chemical and bioengineering. After completing his doctorate on the crystallization of organic molecules, which won him the EFCE Excellence Award, he gained experience at the University of California in Santa Barbara and in industry at Eli Lilly &amp; Company in Indianapolis. Subsequently, as a professor at the University of Manchester, he led a research group on industrial and fundamental issues in particle technology and crystal chemistry. From 2020 to 2025, he was responsible for a department at Lundbeck in Copenhagen for the discovery and characterization of crystal forms of new pharmaceuticals and their process development from laboratory to multi-hundred-kilogram scale.<\/p>\n<p>At the Institute of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Biotechnology, Prof. Vetter will contribute his expertise in teaching and applied research and establish new collaborations with industry and research. This will enable students to learn in a practical way and expand their skills for the pharmaceutical industry, while industry partners will benefit from in-depth expertise in process development and particle technology. With this reinforcement, the institute is continuing its strategic focus on innovative teaching, applied research and close cooperation with industry.
