With around CHF 2.5 million in 2016, the Swiss Climate Foundation supports SMEs in reducing their CO2 emissions or electricity consumption and in developing climate-friendly products. The Swiss Climate Foundation thus contributes to the Swiss and Liechtenstein climate goals.<\/p>\n

Since January 2008, the CO2 Act has required a levy on fuels. Part of the levy flows back to the economy. Large service companies in particular receive more back than they have paid. The partner companies of the Swiss Climate Foundation use this \"net refund\" for climate protection measures by Swiss and Liechtenstein SMEs.<\/p>\n

The funds are made available to SMEs for projects in the areas of innovation or efficiency promotion. The applications cover a broad spectrum; be it recycling technologies (fluidised bed drying), in which high-performance fluidisation is used to simultaneously shred, dry and sterilise waste, or the use of software in building information systems, which elicits a comprehensive identification of energy losses in large buildings and thus helps to become more energy efficient.<\/p>\n

Such efforts support Switzerland's plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.<\/p>\n

Since its establishment in 2008, the Swiss Climate Foundation has supported 1200 SMEs with CHF 14 million. This not only contributes to climate protection, but also supports and strengthens Switzerland and Liechtenstein as a business location. To date, around 400,000 tonnes of CO2 have been avoided through the promotion of SME projects and investments of at least CHF 30 million have been triggered by the start-up financing.<\/p>\n
