The guideline VDI 2221 defines central objectives, activities and work results in a model of product development. It thus provides guidelines for interdisciplinary application in industrial practice. (Symbol image: Depositphotos)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

With the new standard work, respectively with the guideline VDI 2221, companies can check their processes of product development and adapt them to current requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the new VDI 2221<\/a> companies have the opportunity to critically examine their development processes and adapt them to current requirements in order to master the increasing complexity with ever shorter development cycles.<\/span><\/p>\n

The in VDI 2221 Sheet 1<\/a> described general model of product development assumes a systematic flow of product development in which the development activity is divided into logical phases. In this way, the model abstracts a real development process. To implement it in a real environment, it is necessary to take into account specific contextual factors that influence product development. Even though the goals, activities and results of product development processes vary within companies, they can be derived from the general \"model of product development\" through appropriate concretizations.<\/span><\/p>\n

In VDI 2221 Sheet 2<\/a> this derivation is described in concrete terms. In practice, individual activities are often grouped into development phases that are used as a basis for scheduling or organizational flow charts. Depending on the product, industry and organization in the company, such a summary can be made in different ways using different terms. These phases, which depend on the respective product or the requirements defined in the functional specification, are explained and illustrated in the new Sheet 2 using real development processes of different products as examples.<\/span><\/p>\n

Issuer of the Directive VDI 2221<\/a> \"Development of technical products and systems\", Sheet 1<\/a> \"Model of product development\" and Sheet 2<\/a> \"Design of individual product development processes\" is the VDI Society for Product and Process Design (GPP)<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n
