Rackspace CTO Lee James has summarized the details of what might change in the cloud in his five predictions for 2020:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Old acquaintances: The hybrid cloud becomes the new multi-cloud<\/strong>
    \n81 percent of all companies that use cloud technologies rely on the multi-cloud. Nevertheless, the private cloud is not disappearing. On the contrary, the major providers are responding with suitable private cloud offerings such as Azure Arc, Google Cloud Anthos and AWS Outposts, which can be integrated directly into their public cloud solutions. Kubernetes also remains a trend. Here, hyperscalers and VMware 2020 will compete to be the top vendor. Accordingly, numerous new products and services can be expected.<\/li>\n
  2. Cloud-native will drive change<\/strong>
    \nOver the past year and a half, the cloud-native space has been on the rise. Hardly surprising when you look at the successes that cloud-native companies have achieved. What has emerged is a mindset that focuses on innovation, collaboration, and growth - enabling new customer experiences. Take Spotify, for example, where various teams are working to deliver components that integrate seamlessly to provide a simple and intuitive user experience.<\/li>\n
  3. Edge & IoT continue to evolve<\/strong>
    \nIn 2020, the adoption of edge computing and Internet of Things (IoT) will continue across various industries. Certain areas, such as industrial edge and retail edge, will take a pioneering role and thus increase the acceptance and drive the value creation of the technology. Applications in AR, VR and smart retail are to be expected. But: DSGVO, data management and security will play a big role in the implementation.<\/li>\n
  4. Focus on safety<\/strong>
    \nWhen the cloud is rapidly adopted for different business applications, different roles in an organization can interact with, use, and in many cases manage cloud services. The move towards a hybrid cloud approach, where workloads are distributed across multiple public cloud platforms and on-premises environments, results in a new set of security challenges. With this, the CISO should become the Customer Information Security Officer and implement security across departments.<\/li>\n
  5. Increasing maturity of the cloud will change the market<\/strong>
    \n2010 was the year cloud computing went from concept to reality. Ten years later, adoption is high - and growing. Companies are transforming their processes and creating unprecedented value based on high flexibility and scalability. As more and more data is used, analyzed and processed, cloud platforms must grow at high rates.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
