The EU Commission has published this year's\u00a0European Innovation Scoreboard<\/a>\u00a0is published. It examines the development of innovation in the EU Member States. However, some European non-EU countries are also used for comparison. Switzerland is one of them.<\/p>\n

Once again this year, Switzerland is ahead of all EU countries in the rankings. The country owes this good ranking in particular to its research system, human capital and investments in companies, the report says. The many successful research partnerships between business and universities are highlighted. Switzerland also attracts many foreign doctoral students.<\/p>\n

Compared to the EU average, Switzerland has a higher density of companies that invest heavily in research and development. (Top R&D spending enterprises). While the number of such companies in the EU is 16.2 per 10 million inhabitants, it is 67 in Switzerland. In addition, Switzerland attracts more foreign direct investment than the EU average. Net inflows of foreign direct investment in Switzerland account for 3.7 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). This percentage is 2.6 on average in the EU.<\/p>\n

Second place in the ranking this year is once again occupied by Sweden. Sweden is followed by Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
