Great Place to Work® determines the best employers in Switzerland

In the ranking of the Great Place to Work® Institute, credibility, respect and appreciation, fairness, team spirit and finally also the work culture play a role. Pride in the company's activities is not neglected either. Among others, Swisscom received a special award for its contribution to gender equality.

The Great Place to Work® Institute conducted a survey of 50,000 employees in Switzerland to determine the most popular working conditions. Around 200 international organisations based in Switzerland and companies from Switzerland with 20 or more employees took part, with the aim of improving their workplace culture. Based on this, Great Place to Work® awarded the "Best Employers in Switzerland" for the 11th time on 4 April 2019.

Justice rather than money: pay levels receive less attention than perceived fairness

In addition to fair pay, good fringe benefits and appreciative treatment, a trustworthy management makes the difference at work: the managers should appear competent. This encourages employees to recommend the company to others.

In the study, creativity and constructive cooperation, which is always encouraged, are also presented as essential, because employees see their work in the company as meaningful and can be proud of it.

Based on the anonymous opinions of the respondents, the study ultimately produces a ranking of the best employers:

  • Large companies (250+ employees): Sensirion AG (sensor solutions/electrical engineering)
  • Medium-sized companies (50-249 employees): dbi services AG (IT Consulting)
  • Small companies (20-49 employees): Rackspace International GmbH (information and telecommunications technology)

Health care and social services were evaluated separately: Domicil Bern AG achieved 1st place.

Swisscom receives award for work-life balance

In parallel, special prizes were awarded. One was the prize for "agile workplace culture" from XING Switzerland, which rewards a company's responsiveness when adapting to (digital) changes. Secondly, the Office for Gender Equality and Location Promotion of the Canton of Zurich awarded the "Prix BalanceZH": This is awarded to organisations that promote work-life balance. While the former went to Sensirion AG, öbu member Swisscom was delighted to receive the Prix BalanceZH.
